On Monday (April 30), Netflix revealed the first teaser for 13 Reasons Why Season 2. The controversial show's 13-episode second season will follow the Liberty High characters as they cope with the aftermath of their classmate Hannah Baker's suicide.

While the first season revolved around the 13 cassette tapes Baker left in her wake to give clues as to why she decided to take her life, from the looks of the minute-and-a-half-long clip, polaroids will be the method of discovery in the new season. The video shows a series of cast members as photos float around them, revealing a dark look into what's to come.

The teaser ends with main character Clay Jenson picking up a photo of Baker with a warning written on the back: "The tapes were just the beginning."

Along with the first look, Netflix also announced that 13 Reasons Why Season 2 is set to premiere on May 18. Watch the full teaser trailer below.

The show's first season was met with backlash from the mental health community for glorifying things like sexual assault, bullying and suicide. Though many were shocked that Netflix renewed the series for a second season, the streaming mogul assured it would make some adjustments this time around to address the severity and seriousness of its subject matter.
