[UPDATED] 18-Year-Old Victim Identified in Linn County Accident
[UPDATED TUES., FEB 12 7 AM] The Linn County Sheriff's Office has identified 18-year-old Katelyn Miranda of Washington, Iowa as the woman killed in a 2-vehicle accident on Blairs Ferry Road Monday morning.
[ORIGINAL STORY] The Linn County Sheriff's Office reports an 18-year-old woman was killed in a Monday morning crash, west of Cedar Rapids. According to a media release, the two-vehicle accident happened at approximately 8:06 a.m. near the corner of Blairs Ferry Road and Feather Ridge Road.
54-year-old Susan Geels of Cedar Rapids was traveling east on Blairs Ferry Road, towards Cedar Rapids, when she was hit head-on by a vehicle driven by the 18-year-old woman. Authorities say the young driver lost control of the vehicle she was driving, due to icy conditions, and slid into the path of Geels.
The 18-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene and Geels was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, via Area Ambulance. Geels' injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The name of the other driver has not been released, pending notification of relatives.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the accident.
