2 Year-Old Iowa Boy Shoots Himself With Father’s Gun
A two-year-old boy remains hospitalized after shooting himself with his father's unsecured handgun. The boy, whose name is not being released, was seriously injured according to police.
Officers were called to the Sterling Inn in Clive, Iowa at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning. When emergency crews arrived, they found the young boy with a gunshot wound to his chest and neck. Officials determined that the boy and his family were staying at the hotel. The boy's father left a loaded, .45 caliber handgun unsecured in a piece of luggage. The boy found the weapon, picked it up and fired it. The bullet entered his upper chest, passed through his neck and lodged into a wall of the hotel room.
An investigation into the shooting continues by the Clive Police Department. Any decision on possible charges would come from the Polk County Attorney's office. The boy's father did have a valid permit to carry a handgun in the state of Iowa.
