A Fifth Year For WR VandeBerg A ‘Slam Dunk’

If you're nervous about Iowa wide receiver Matt VandeBerg getting a fifth year of eligibility from the NCAA, don't be. Sure, the sting from Drew Ott being denied is still there but VandeBerg has a much stronger case. His season ended after just four games, which the NCAA counts as a third of the season. That is well within the range of qualifying for the hardship waiver.

Who knows how the Hawkeye season would have ended if VandeBerg would have stayed healthy. He was the clear number one wideout and a favorite target of C.J. Beathard before his injury. Iowa ended up going 8-4 and wait on their bowl game fate that will be revealed this Sunday.

VandeBerg won't be at that bowl game, but he DOES plan on being in the Iowa season opener against Wyoming in 2017. When asked if he had second thoughts about coming back for a fifth year, VandeBerg said, " I don't know why anyone would want to leave it (Iowa) early."
