Have banjo, will travel....to small town America. That's the plan for Mumford & Sons and their Gentlemen Of The Road tour.

Rural areas of the U.S. will be featured on the tour itinerary, and Eastern Iowans are excited. We announced the Waverly show yesterday on KRNA and have had a lot of inquiries about the show. It will happen the weekend of June 19-20 at the Wartburg College athletic fields.

The U.K. superstars will be joined on stage by 10 other bands, including Kentucky's indie gem My Morning Jacket and the legendary Flaming Lips.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m., but I'll be giving you free tickets all week in the 5 p.m. hour. All ticket winners get free camping.

It's not every day that a little Iowa town of 10,000 residents is able to host a big international headlining festival. Other out-of-the-way locales include Salida, Co, Walla Walla, Washington and Seaside Heights N.J.

While I don't know why Waverly was chosen, it does appear there are stated goals in scouting venues/cities. Back in 2013, The Gentlemen of the Road tour officials were quoted as saying "We are looking for towns not normally frequented by touring bands in buses. We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some sort of vibe of which they are proud. We then explore them and enjoy what they have to offer."

The Luther College newspaper revealed that the tour was scouting the campus in Decorah, but it didn't come together. The Wartburg show will draw fans from Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Des Moines, Dubuque and north of the border in the Twin Cities. I like the location.
