According to a new survey, 'Silent Night' is America's favorite Christmas carol, but it is NOT the most downloaded holiday song of all time...

The Saint Leo University Polling Institute surveyed over 1,000 people to find out what their favorite Christmas carols are, and out of all 46 options, "Silent Night" was the winner. Fun fact for you: "Silent Night" was composed in 1818 in Austria by Franz Xaver Gruber, with lyrics written by Joseph Mohr. I guess you just can't beat the classics! Here's the rest of the top 10:

  1. "Silent Night"
  2. "White Christmas"
  3. "Jingle Bells"
  4. "O Come All Ye Faithful"
  5. "Joy to the World"
  6. "I'll Be Home for Christmas"
  7. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
  8. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
  9. "The Little Drummer Boy"
  10. "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"

The bottom three were "Happy Xmas (War is Over)," "Wonderful Christmastime," and in dead last, "Merry Christmas, Darling."

What's interesting, though, is none of these "favorite" Christmas carols are on the list of the most downloaded holiday songs of all time. According to Billboard, those are as follows:

  1. "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey (3.2 MILLION downloads)
  2. "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" from Frozen
  3. "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
  4. "Mistletoe" by Justin Bieber
  5. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee
  6. "Christmas Canon" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
  7. "Where Are You Christmas?" by Faith Hill
  8. "Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano
  9. "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms
  10. "Last Christmas" by Wham!
