In a unanimous vote by the Anamosa city council, police chief Robert Simonson will be terminated.

A lawsuit against the department was recently settled for $750,000 after a former officer accused Simonson of sexual harassment and gender discrimination. He submitted his letter of resignation, but was rejected by the city council as they instead voted to fire Simonson.

The public packed a city council meeting Monday and offered their support for the firing as well.
