If your kids are like mine, the hot summer temperatures just don't matter. If your friends are outside, you go out and play. It doesn't matter if it's 90 degrees or more. But that raises the important issue of keeping your kids hydrated. Are your kids drinking enough water? Here are some signs that they may not be getting enough.

  • Dry skin. When you're dehydrated your skin loses its elasticity. Even being a little dehydrated can cause chapped lips, dry mouth, and brittle nails.
  • Cramps. This is a sure sign of dehydration. Drink more water and try foods that are rich in potassium like bananas.
  • Feeling hot all the time. Your body can't regulate it's temperature when you're dehydrated so you start to overheat. Drink plenty of water when out in the sun.
  • Constipation. Yes, being dehydrated can make your urine yellow, but it can also lead to constipation. Try drinking more water before turning to a laxative.
  • Fatigue. Not drinking enough water can make you feel sick even if you aren't. Some cold symptoms could even be due to dehydration.
