Wet weather and hot & humid days brought down the attendance for this year's Iowa State Fair.

Fair CEO Gary Slater told the Des Moines Register, "This year's fair was down about 86,000 from last year's record-breaking attendance."

The biggest days for this year's fair were both Saturday's. August 13 saw attendance of 113,873 while August 20, 112,672 walked through the gates. Those were the only two days the fair broke the 100,000 mark in attendance, compared to seven days last year. However, the overall numbers aren't that much lower than 2015. Last year's Iowa State Fair saw 1,117,398 visitors attend the fair compared to this year's of 1,031,278 fair goers. 2016's numbers comparable favorably to 2014. About 15,000 more people came through the gates this August, compared to two years ago.
