As much as you might try to avoid it, it's almost inevitable you might have to drive as the kids are out trick or treating.  Whether it's a quick run to get more candy or carting the kids around from neighborhood to neighborhood, there's some overlooked habits you might want to check yourself on.

If you find yourself behind the wheel, keep in mind kids are everywhere, and are probably not paying attention to anything but candy and their friends.  Drive extremely cautiously and slower than normal, especially in neighborhoods. Take extra time to turn corners too.  Don't forget, popular trick or treating hours are from 5:30p-9p, so be super vigilant starting the moment you leave work.

We all know the dangers of texting and driving.  But even more so on Halloween night, keep that phone out of sight.  Don't even think about touching it, even for a seconds.  Avoid all distractions as you're driving, as you just never know when and where a kid will pop out from.  This also includes food, reaching for a CD, etc.  Just eliminate all distractions.

Another thing often forgotten is when you leave or arrive back home.  Be extra careful as you pull off the street into your driveway, or out of the garage.  It very easy to miss something or someone, so take extra time.

If you don't absolutely have to drive tonight, don't.  But if you do, make sure you remember to use extra caution.  We'll even give you permission to keep that radio low, or off if you have to.
