Easily one of the busiest streets for redevelopment in Cedar Rapids is Blairs Ferry Road. A quick trip down it today showed just how much is going on.

Burger King closed their Collins Road location in front of Lindale Mall on January 3. That location is in the process of being replaced by a Jared The Galleria of Jewelry. Now, comes the unveiling of a new sign along Blairs Ferry Road in the Northtowne Market Shopping Center. There's no building construction yet, but the sign clearly shows it's only a matter of a time.

The Northtowne Market Shopping Center is the massive development that sits across Blairs Ferry Road from the Chrome Horse, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Target. Last week, Gander Mountain announced they would be moving their southwest Cedar Rapids store to the development next year. It will be a larger store than the current Cedar Rapids location.

Judging by the location of the sign, it appears Gander Mountain may be located on the back side of the development. The sign sits just behind Goodwill, off Council Street.

Construction continues on a large mixed-use building in Northtowne Market. There will definitely be more announcements to come. The Hunter Companies website shows six of 13 available lots have sales pending.

Travel a little further east on Blairs Ferry Road and more work is underway. According to Corridor Business, the former MidAmerican Aerospace Warehouse (280 Blairs Ferry Road Northeast) is already well into its transformation into the future Cedar Rapids home of Randy's Carpets and Interiors.

Dirt is moving in at least one other location along Blairs Ferry as well. The corner of Blairs Ferry and Council, once home to the El Kahir Shrine Temple, will soon host a new University of Iowa Community Credit Union.

That's not all. The new Rock Top restaurant recently opened across Rockwell Drive from Northtowne Market. Construction continues on buildings right next door to Rock Top as well. Yes, Blairs Ferry Road is one happening place these days.
