Yesterday's CBS2 report by Conner Morgan that Linn County is considering raising the local minimum wage from $7.25 an hour has been met with criticism and a hint of sarcasm from some local business owners.

One local coffee shop owner was quoted  "very few people are willing to pay $9 for a latte", implying that a raise in minimum wage would likely be offset by rising costs of goods and services.

Which begs the question, how many lattes can a minimum wage employee afford if they're only making $7.25 hour?

Hmm...

Meanwhile, the next meeting to discuss the issue will be held May 12 at 8:30 a.m. at the Jean Oxley Public Service Center on 2nd Street in Cedar Rapids.
