A very busy Cedar Rapids bridge will see construction crews, and possible traffic delays, throughout the summer.

The First Avenue Bridge will have major repairs made to its decks, arches, sidewalks, and more for the first time since the early 1990's, according to The Gazette.

Work is scheduled to begin in June or July and continue into next year. Work on the bridge's support structure will take the longest while repairs on the bridge deck should be done by the early part of fall. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open throughout the project, though there won't always be lane closures.

Around 14,000 vehicles cross the First Avenue Bridge each day and this $1.765 million project should assure none of us will have any issues with that part of our daily lives for years to come.
