In a city run-off election that took place in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, a new mayor and new councilperson were elected.

Cedar Rapids attorney Brad Hart defeated Monica Vernon to replace outgoing mayor Ron Corbett. The run-off vote was held due to no candidate getting a majority of the vote among a packed field in November. The end result this time was a 54-46 percent margin of victory for Hart.

The same was true in District 5, for their city council post, where newcomer and information technology analyst Ashley Vanorny unseated incumbent Justin Shields 60-39 percent.

The city of Cedar Rapids has spoken and some fresh ideas and new voices are coming to your government.
