Unlike a large number of businesses, schools and organizations that are closing due to record cold temperatures in the coming days, one place is actually opening early to the public, welcoming them for hot drinks and a comfortable place to spend their day.

The Library always strives to meet the needs of our community. This week we are doing what we can to ensure the safety of those who are most vulnerable

Those were the words of Cedar Rapids Public Library Director Dara Schmidt in an interview with KCRG. It may seem like the whole world shuts down in this weather, but not the library, so if you're downtown working, waiting for a ride or just needing a place to cozy up, they are open for business early starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday this week at both the Downtown and Ladd branches.

While you're there, you're welcome to enjoy a coffee, cocoa or pastry while supplies last.
