An early morning crash Sunday along I-380 claimed the life of a Cedar Rapids man. The Iowa State Patrol says that a car driven by 26-year-old Rashad Carrington was northbound on I-380 at the 965 overpass Sunday morning at around 3:05 a.m. Carrington lost control of his vehicle and struck the guardrail. His car then came to rest in the east ditch.

Carrington was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where he was pronounced dead. Carrington was a former Mt. Mercy student-athlete. He played on the basketball team and graduated in 2013. He was also a member of the Cedar Valley CourtKings, a semi-pro basketball team.
