It's only been open for a year, following a lengthy renovation of a building with a rich history, but the end has come for a Cedar Rapids Restaurant and Bar. Backpocket Pilot Pub has announced they're closing, on their Facebook page:

After a year of experimenting on new craft beers in collaboration with the newly renovated Sokol building restaurant in Cedar Rapids, Backpocket Brewing and Sokol Bars, LLC have agreed to end their relationship. That means our Backpocket Pilot Pub will no longer be part of the BP family.

Now, if you're concerned that means you'll no longer be able to get Backpocket beer,  never fear. The post goes on to say

If you're in and around Cedar Rapids, you will still be able to find Backpocket beer on tap, we just won't have a dedicated brew house.

The closing was first reported to us by Amanda Happel, who said they received discounts and that they were "told to take the mug club mugs home" during a visit over the weekend. Backpocket opened last summer in the former Sokol Gymnasium building at 415 3rd St. SE.

The news comes about a month after another business announced they'll open about a block away. Gianna's Italian Beef is expected to open in late August or early September at 323 3rd St. SE.
