Police in Cedar Rapids have shut down one of the cities red light cameras. The camera had been operational at 2nd Ave and Third Street SW. That camera is no longer issuing citations.

Why? Because that intersection no longer has a red light. The city replaced it with a stop sign several months ago. Police say that no decision hs been made about what to do with the equipment, or whether it will be transferred to another intersection.

Officials say the decision is NOT related to pending litigation surrounding the cities use of speed cameras. That lawsuit deals with the cameras on I-380 and whether DOT rules allow them to be there.
