In case you missed it earlier this week, it was announced that Columbia House has filed for bankruptcy. In a way, it was shocking to be reminded it still exists at all.

You remember Columbia House? 12 CDs for a penny -- provided you purchase about 16 more at regular price in the next year. Sounds like a rip-off now, but it's how I accumulated part of my famous CD collection I've already told you so much about. I most likely even bought the Huey Lewis & The News CD featured in the picture attached to this blog, from them.

Music stores have been on the decline for a while since digital download sites like Spotify, iTunes and Pandora took hold. Why wait for a shipment in the mail or drive to the mall to get what you can now acquire with a couple of clicks? I agree, the technology is a great thing. But there was nothing like removing the plastic wrap (or cardboard packaging in the really early years) and holding that awesome new CD or cassette in your hands. Columbia House's demise is just the inevitable end to another fond memory from our past.

RIP Columbia House!
