I'm feeling a little bit guilty this morning, so I'd like to know what YOU would've done in this situation.

I'd like to think of myself as a very cautious person. I'm constantly alert when walking through a dark parking lot, I always triple-check that my car/front door are locked, and I try my best to never walk alone at night if I don't have to. That's why I did what I did this morning.

I was on my way to work today, and I was running a little late. It was about 4 A.M. and I was driving through downtown Cedar Rapids. Normally, I never see any cars or people downtown that early in the morning. It was dark and there was nobody in sight. Until I saw this woman.

I didn't get a good look at her, but she looked to be about middle-aged and she was walking alone. I pulled up to a stop sign and she spotted me and started waving at me. I thought she was trying to cross, so I gave her a little wave to say, "go ahead." When she continued waving at me and shouting, "Miss! Miss!" I realized she wanted me to roll down my window. Then she started to walk into the street and approach my car, and I panicked. I shouted through my cracked window something like, "sorry, I can't, I have to get to work," and it was met with an angry, "WOOOOWWWWWW." I drove off, but I IMMEDIATELY felt guilty. As a woman, I always feel a duty to help other women, but I didn't exactly feel like I was in a safe situation to do so. I mean, it was 4 A.M., pitch dark, and there was not a single soul around. She didn't appear to be hurt, and she wasn't running like she was being chased or anything like that, but I can't help but wonder if I should've at least found out what she needed before driving away.

The only times that I've ever been in a situation like this, it was because the person wanted money or a ride from me. That could've very well been the case this time around, but what if it wasn't? What if this woman legitimately needed help and I blew her off?

Did I do the right thing? Or was I being selfish only being concerned with my own safety? What would you have done? Let us know in the comments!
