I'm going to do my best not to spoil the movie for anybody who hasn't seen it, but if you don't want to know ANYTHING about the movie, this is your official SPOILER ALERT.

For me, the sure sign of a really good movie is when it still affects you the following day. When I woke up this morning, the first thing I thought about was "La La Land," and that's no lie. I mean, this movie REALLY messed me up last night! The best movies always do.

"La La Land" is a movie/musical that came out in December of last year. It was originally only released to a limited number of theaters, but now it's pretty much everywhere. On Sunday night, the movie was awarded SEVEN Golden Globes, so I knew it was time to go see it. Plus, I am a huge musical nerd.

Going in, I wasn't exactly sure what the movie was going to be about. I knew it was a romance and I knew it was a musical, but that's all the trailers told me. Basically, the movie takes place in L.A. and is about the progression of a relationship between Sebastian and Mia, played by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Both characters have big aspirations, so the struggle comes when they are forced to balance love and following their dreams. Overall, the movie was charming, funny, entertaining, and absolutely heartbreaking. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say I didn't get the ending I wanted. I'm sure there were people out there who thought the ending was perfect, but I am not one of those people. I left the movie feeling a little bit shattered. I consider myself to be a realistic person (I've also been called pessimistic), but when it comes to movies I always expect the best possible ending. The issues in the movie hit close to home for me, so I was REALLY hoping for that happy ending. When I didn't get exactly what I wanted, I was crushed. But that's life, isn't it? We never get exactly what we want.

As far as the music goes, I absolutely loved it. Are Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling the greatest singers on planet Earth? No. But I wasn't expecting them to be, and I thought their voices were a great fit for the film. Ryan Gosling blew me away with his piano playing, though. He learned and played every single note in the movie. There were no hand doubles and no CGI. I totally loved the passionate piano pieces and the heavy jazz influence in the movie.

I truly believe that "La La Land" deserves every single award that it won (and will continue to win. It's just that good). If you love musicals and really good movies, go see it. Now.

If you've already seen the movie, what did you think of it? Share your thoughts in the comments.
