I braved the cold this weekend to go to the movies, and I have to say that it was well worth it!

Yes, I am technically an adult, but that will never stop me from loving kid's movies! Yesterday I headed to Wehrenberg in Cedar Rapids to go see a movie that I've been dying to see for months - Disney's "Moana":

I''m going to be honest with you, I had very high expectations for this movie. First of all, it's Disney, and second of all, Lin-Manuel Miranda (the creator of the musical "Hamilton") composed all of the music for the movie. I'm happy to say, I was not let down.

I want to start by saying that the animation in this movie is absolutely amazing. Seriously, technology has come so far in just a few years. The detail is extraordinary! I think that the ocean-setting made everything even more beautiful. If you don't know what the movie is about, basically it's about a young girl who sets out to save her island with the help of the ancient demigod Maui, played by none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. I knew that the singing voice of Moana would be gorgeous (and it was), but I was SUPER impressed by The Rock! His singing voice was way better than I expected it to be! Now sure, I know the music was perfected with heavy production, but I am impressed, nonetheless.

Speaking of singing, the songs in "Moana" were so beautiful! My favorite had to be "How Far I'll Go," although I also loved "We Know the Way," as well.

The main reason I loved this movie, though, is because Moana is such a fierce, spirited character. As much as I love the classic Disney princesses, Moana is a much better character for young women to look up to than say... Cinderella (in my opinion, anyways). She's more of a Mulan or a Merida. She follows her heart and she fights for what she wants. Boys have so many male superheros to idolize, so I love when a powerful woman gets to be the hero.

Overall, I thought the movie was amazing, whether you're an child or an adult-sized child. If you're looking to take your kids to a movie over the holiday break, this would be a great option!
