It can be really surprising to see your favorite celebrities doing things other than what they’re famous for. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered a really fun show last weekend starring one of my favorite musicians – Daryl Hall.

Besides being a great musician, Daryl Hall (of Hall & Oates) stars in a great TV/web series called "Live from Daryl's House", where he performs jam sessions with his friends, favorite fellow artists, or up-and-comers. That’s not what surprised me though. He is also involved with another show that displays an entirely different side of this rock-and-roll Hall of Famer. "Daryl's Restoration Over-Hall" revolves around Daryl and his wife's restoration of an old farmhouse built in 1787 in Connecticut, which they have purchased and are adding an addition to. An interesting twist is the intent for the new addition to look even older than the rest of the centuries-old home.

Granted, Hall doesn’t do a ton of the grunt work, but he’s also not just standing around barking out orders at lowly construction workers. He is very hands-on with the project, far more than you might expect, and definitely appears to know his way around a construction site. I also thought it seemed like he has a genuine love of history and architecture. As someone who isn’t much of a handyman, it’s fascinating to see this side of one of my idols!

Check out the video below of Hall singing "Restoration Over-Hall", the show's theme song, and catch a few clips from the show.

Have you seen the show? Let me know what you thought of it.

By the way, if you want to watch “Live From Daryl’s House”, you’ll find it on the Palladia network, which I unfortunately don’t get. It’s airs locally on the CW.
