CSPS in the NewBo District had a $7 million post-flood facelift a few years back. I've seen a few shows in those hallowed halls, including a Freedy Johnston gig. Back in the day, there was a house cat that wandered the halls of the venue. Since I haven't seen the "rehab", I wonder if that cat will still be around when I see "Dogfight" this weekend. The show runs Thursday-Sunday this week.

The newly formed Revival Theatre Company presents the Midwest premiere of a musical based on the 1991 film starring River Phoenix and Lili Taylor.

Here's how director Brian Glick and his staff describe the show...

It’s November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boys’ night of debauchery, partying and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion. Dogfight carries the audience through a thunderous musical journey of unexpected love, loss, and brotherhood.

The show gets major props from the Associated Press, “Dogfight is something special! Studded with impressive songs, an unexpected love affair, and a genuine and charming soul.”

Some people in the know that I've talked to say it is a perfect date-night destination and will blow the doors off the joint!

This show is PG-13, so don't bring the little ones. Reserve an outing with them across your Saturday midday for our KidsFest just up the road at the Helen G. Nassif YMCA/Downtown.
