Additional Information

Heard of the annual football rivalry between City and West High for the “Battle For The Boot” trophy? With a fundraising spin, the City High ComedySportz improv club has challenged the West High improv team to come to Opstad Auditorium on Thursday, Jan. 17th at 7:00PM for the Battle For The Boots!Improv Comedy Match to benefit the North Liberty Community Pantry that supplies winter boots to Johnson County families. $5 (or a pair of gently used boots) will get you into the ComedySportz High School League match similar to Whose Line Is It Anyway? where points accumulate by teams winning various improvisation games. For their first exhibition match of the season, City High takes on cross-town rivals West High.

The tongue-in-cheek comedy match begins with professional opera star/house painter Wayne Neuzil singing the National Anthem. Neuzil has performed for the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and over 300 University of Iowa events.  The celebrity judge for the evening is Mazahir Salih, Iowa City Council member and the first Sudan-American elected official in the United States.

City High and West High are proud to partner again with the North Liberty Community Pantry and support their worthwhile cause. The Community Pantry contributes to its members’ needs for food and clothing, and provides opportunities for an improved quality of life for Johnson County families.

Tickets for the family-friendly Comedy Improv Match can be purchased at the door in Opstad Auditorium at 1900 Morningside Drive in Iowa City. The match will last about one hour. For more information, call (319) 688-1040.
