Winter-time on an Iowa farm at the turn of the century and the seven sons of Mr. Rowling gather around the fireplace and listen, entranced, to their father’s story about a young girl named Tammy, who had been snatched up by a heartless giant one cold, blustery night. The next morning the six eldest sons head merrily off to Capital City for a bit of adventuring – only to be first distracted by a group of wandering girls, who all claim to be looking for their little sister, and then captured by a great, stomping giant. The youngest son, Leif, after getting his mother’s and father’s blessing, goes off to find his brothers. On the way, Leif makes friends with a crow, a fish, a wolf, and a mysterious young girl, all who aid him in his endeavor to find the heart of the heartless giant and rescue his family. A mix of drama, comedy, music, and puppetry, The Heartless Giant explores the nature and notion of family and is ideal for winter-time entertainment.
