'Tis the season for pumpkin spiced lattes and crockpot cooking! Fall is a favorite time of year for everyone. While there are plenty of fun outdoor Halloween activities to look forward to, there's also some great ways to keep the kids entertained when the weather keeps you inside.

One of the cutest fall crafts that I've seen on Pinterest this year is a ghost painting that all of your kids can literally leave their stamp on. Upside down footprints are used to create little ghosts on a canvas. All you need for this is a canvas and some acrylic paints. Normally, I'm all about cheap acrylics, but for this project I suggest getting a higher quality artist paint. You won't be able to do a second coat of these footprints and a high quality paint will allow less of the black background show through.

Begin by painting the entire canvas black. Once that's dry, paint one of each child's feet with white paint and have them stamp it into the canvas once. Once the footprints dry, paint eyes on your ghosts and write each kid's name below their footprint. This turns out as a cute decoration and a fun keepsake to hang year after year!

Another idea that I love is paper cup spiders, take a look at them here. Prep the cups for your kids by poking four holes along the rim on each side of a foam cup. Let your kids get creative and paint their cups and decide what kind of face to give to their spiders. Glue on some googly eyes to complete your face. To finish it off, cut four pipe cleaners in half and have the kids shape them however they'd like to position their spiders' legs. Stick those in the holes you created earlier and you're done!

To cap off a season of fun fall crafts for your kids, bring the whole family out to Cedar Rapids Kids Fest at the Helen G. Nassif YMCA Downtown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25. Make sure the kids wear their costumes for the Monster Dash to kick off a day of fun!  Activities include a bounce house, yoga, musical tombstones, a cake walk, relay races, and of course, a craft area!
