It’s right there in the film’s title, but we haven’t seen too many of the fantastic beasts that Newt Scamander will have to find (or recover) in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Thanks to Warner Bros., you can check out a handful of the creatures that will appear in the upcoming film, which takes us back to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world for an all-new magical adventure.

Entertainment Weekly revealed some new details about several of the various critters that will be featured in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, including at least a couple that have already appeared in the Harry Potter universe. The upcoming film stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who travels to 1920s New York, where a chance encounter with a muggle (or no-maj, as they’re called in the States) results in the disastrous release of the titular beasts.

Here’s what EW revealed:

Niffler

The Niffler previously appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, so you’ve definitely seen this little guy before. He likes to collect shiny trinkets and treasures in the pouch on his belly, and according to Fantastic Beasts effects supervisor Christian Manz, the mischievous, rodent-like creature was inspired by the Honey Badger.

Bowtruckle

A sort of magical take on the stick insect, the Bowtruckle is described as “a sweet and intensely shy creature, but extremely loyal, and it can be very handy to have around when there are locks to pick.”

Thunderbird

This one looks a bit like Dumbledore’s Phoenix, no? But the Thunderbird has more in common with a Hippogriff, the giant bird-like creature memorably featured in the Harry Potter films. Native to Arizona, the Thunderbird has “multiple powerful wings shimmer with cloud-and sun-like patterns and their flapping can create storms.” Newt rescued one from Egypt and named him Frank.

Swooping Evil

One of the more intriguing creatures, the Swooping Evil is described as follows:

Looks like a cross between a reptile and an extremely large butterfly, when at rest, the Swooping Evil lives in a green spiny cocoon.  But when it spreads its colorful, spiked wings, it is strangely beautiful.  It can be dangerous, as it is capable of sucking out brains, but, conversely, if properly diluted, its venom can be quite useful to erase bad memories.

Demiguise

This “a primate-like creature” has precognitive abilities and the power to become invisible, which makes its fur useful for creating invisibility cloaks — and makes the creature very difficult to catch.

Occamy

And finally we have the mysterious Occamy, “a plumed, two-legged, winged creature with a serpentine body, making it look like a cross between a dragon and a bird.” This beast comes from the Far East and India, and is hatched from eggs that are made from valuable silver. It’s also described as a “choranaptyxic,” which means it can “grow or shrink to fit available space.”

This is only a sampling of the creatures we’ll meet in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which also stars Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell and Ezra Miller, and hits theaters on November 18.
