It appears that fireworks will be very easy to get in Iowa... perhaps even in your favorite department or convenience store.

Even though some cities have outlawed their citizens using them, including Dubuque earlier today, it certainly looks like Iowans won't have trouble getting their hands on fireworks.

According to the Gazette, as of this morning, over 1,000 applications to sell fireworks had been submitted. More than 10 percent of the total is via Wal-Mart who applied for the right to sell fireworks in 113 stores around the state. Hy-Vee, Costco, Sam's Club, and some Target and Kum & Go locations have also applied to sell them. There's also unknown names like Bellino Fireworks, with nearly 60 applications, and Iowa Fireworks Company, with 20.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office believes there will be around 1,000 total locations that sell fireworks in Iowa... that would equate to around 10 per county, though I'm sure most would be in counties with higher populations like Polk, Linn, and Scott.

While the choices to buy them appear plentiful, don't expect to see spectacular fireworks displays outside the windows in your neighborhood. Only firecrackers, roman candles, and bottle rockets are allowed in Iowa, even with the new law that's now in effect.
