Four firefighters from Cedar Falls received an award Wednesday for saving the life of a mother and her two children from a burning house in February.

Captian Derek Brown along with firefighters Shane Farmer, Toddy Taylor, and Troy Purdy all were awarded The Sullivan Brothers Award of Valor at a ceremony at the state capitol in Des Moines. The award honors officers and firefighters who perform heroic acts while on duty.

The four firefighters crawled through a burning house to save Ashley Calfee and her three children. The fire destroyed the home and the family lost nearly everything. Everything except their lives thanks to the brave actions of the Cedar Falls fire department.
