Gas vs. Charcoal?

I recently moved and lugged my 13-year old gas grill to our new abode. Took 3 of us to get the monstrosity into the truck. Maybe I should have taken the advice of my friend Tim over in the Key City. He says the good 'ol fashioned Weber grill and some good 'ol fashioned charcoal birquettes will ALWAYS make for better grilling. Alton Brown would agree...

The gas grill is all about convenience, right? But when a run to the store for a propane refill is required, I guess that's no more convenient than a dash to the store for more Kingsford product.

Do you think food cooked on the 2 variations tastes differently?
