I was on the road last night, and got to bed late, waking up late, hearing the news everyone else did, that the legendary David Bowie passed away overnight.  He spent the last 18 months battling cancer, and it finally got the best of him.  This news comes just days after his 25th album, "Blackstar", was released.

There's no denying the iconic status of Bowie.  As the images above show, he was a man of creation, experimentation, and re-invention. From the early days struggling to make an impact, to the launch of his career as alter-ego "Ziggy Stardust", to one of the oddest collaborations of it's time when he teamed with Bing Crosby for "Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth".  And there was the launch of his movie career, and into the minds of so many kids of the 80's and 90's as the troll king in "Labyrinth".

There's no denying, he was different.  And that's what made him so special. He went from Pop, to Glam Rock, to Soul and Funk, to New Wave, and so much in between, with his latest being more Jazz infused.  He was an artist afraid of no boundaries or labels. A pioneer and inspiration.

While we don't have a lot of his music in the KDAT playlist, we honor him today with a couple tracks including "Let's Dance" and "Changes".  But that's only the tip of the iceberg on so many great singles from David that we'll personally be enjoying off air as well today.

So many have weighed in on social media with their tributes, many of which can be seen here.  Losing a legend is never easy, and this has hit us hard.  But he has left us with so many gifts, and inspired so many, celebrating his life today creates a bit more joy among the sadness.

I know sometime this week, my kids will finally be watching "Labyrinth", which has been on the "to watch" list far too long.
