Hilary Duff Feels ‘Extremely Guilty’ for Being a Working Mom

Sexism in pop culture—especially in the music, movie, and television industries—is nothing new. Double standards abound in terms of physical appearance and acceptable content, but it's also a frequent issue when it comes to the questions female stars get asked during interviews versus their male counterparts. Take, for instance, the topic of raising a child: It seems perfectly acceptable—if not encouraged—to ask women what it's like to be a "working mom," but men rarely (if ever) get asked what it's like to be a "working dad."

In her recent cover interview with REDBOOK, "Sparks" hitmaker Hilary Duff adds her name to the list of women who have been asked to discuss the difficulties of being a working mom. Duff—who appears on the cover of the magazine's upcoming issue—is officially divorced from hockey player Mike Comrie, and has since been juggling being a single parent to her 3-year-old son Luca with her major role on TV Land's new series Younger, not to mention her music comeback.

When asked about the concept of "mom guilt," Duff had this to say: "It's hard to say that you really can have it all. I think you can to a certain degree, but fully loaded, pedal-all-the-way-down is tough. You're missing out on something, either on the career or on the family. When I'm really busy with work, I feel extremely guilty."

She also discussed the possibility of getting married again, saying "I don't want to say I wouldn't get married again, but it's not important to me. I don't feel I would need to be married to have another child. If I felt strongly enough toward someone or if someone felt strongly about it, I might say okay. But it's not essential."
