WalletHub took a look at 2016 holiday budgets for 570 cities all over the U.S., with a couple of Iowa cities ranking pretty high on the list.

Buying Christmas gifts can get pretty expensive, especially if you have kids (and all of those kids want iPads or Xbox Ones!). I don't have any kids, but next year I am definitely starting to save for Christmas in like... June. I absolutely LOVE buying nice Christmas gifts for the people I love, but at what cost?! Every year I try to set a budget for myself, and every year I go over that budget, without fail. According to a new survey, the average per-person tab is expected to reach $935.58 this year, up from $805.65 in 2015.

Here is a list of cities in Iowa, and the average maximum holiday budget for people within that city:

  • Davenport - $876
  • Des Moines - $866
  • Waterloo - $786
  • Ames - $774
  • Cedar Rapids - $596
  • Iowa City - $569

Does this look about right to you, or is the study wayyyyy off? Let us know in the comments!
