Have you ever wondered what the life of a panhandler is all about? Do these people make thousands of dollars every year begging for money? Is there that many people during the course of a day that actually stop their vehicle to toss a few bucks out the window of their car? What really happens?

Well, we were curious as well, so we decided to conduct a little experiment. We sent Townsquare media crew member, Shannon Appleby, to the corner of Collins and Center Point Road in Cedar Rapids. As most of you know, this is a VERY busy intersection. His job was to hold a sign and hope for the best.

You'll see in this short clip, it's not as easy as it looks. Most people drove by without even making eye contact. The weather was very cold on this day, and Shannon found out quickly that life on the streets is no fun.

ALL of the money Shannon received was donated to a local shelter.
