You've seen the Snickers ad that says "you're not you, when you're hungry". For me it could say, "you're not you, when you've gone too long without a haircut". I just got one earlier this week, and every single time, I come out feeling better, physically and mentally.

Most women I know love to get their hair done, but for guys it feels more like a necessary evil. So I wondered, does getting a haircut have the same effect on others as it does on me?

How long can you hold off on a haircut before you feel out of sorts? I usually wait about a month but rarely longer than five weeks. This is right in line with popular opinion suggesting a guy should get a haircut every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the look and style he's going for. To maintain my fresh buzz-cut look, it's usually recommended to either do it yourself in between cuts--which I'm not the least bit confident with--or go in about every two weeks, but that seems excessive (and costly) to me.

I know we have lots of great local stylists in town, but I also love to find any old-fashioned independent barber shops. Barber Kuts on Edgewood Road is one of my favorites, but I usually just end up at a place like Cost Cutters.

Give me your thoughts in the comments.
