How to Spot a Tourist in Iowa

It's a famous language conundrum to visitors and newcomers to Iowa. I occasionally refer to it as "soda" myself, but in the end, you'll be hard-pressed to find a true Iowan that doesn't call those carbonated sugar drinks "pop".

This is not an entirely negative stereotype. Just think of the numerous cookouts this summer when sweet corn is on the menu. It's the best here in Iowa!

Interesting, considering that's the state best known for potatoes. But what's wrong with being known for either one? We're feeding the world and we're proud of it!

There's lots more to see and do than they realize. Contrary to popular belief, there's plenty to do here in Iowa. You can go to the Amana Colonies, Adventureland in Des Moines, or enjoy our awesome state fair every summer. We even have tourist attractions that inspired movies, as you can visit the Field of Dreams and The Bridges of Madison County right here in Iowa.

Several times this spring alone, we've been able to joke about practically having all four seasons of weather in a single day, and it's not too far from the truth. Iowa is famous for its fluctuating weather. What might be borderline shorts weather for us might still be jacket or coat weather for those not used to it.
