Sunday was a gorgeous day across the Midwest with blue skies and warm temperatures. However, in the state of Nebraska, high winds caused a scary accident on Interstate 80. Just look at the conditions that led to the crash late Sunday afternoon:

The dust created impossible travel conditions which resulted in this pileup.

According to KETV, 20 vehicles were involved in the crash that had both east and westbound traffic closed on the interstate for a couple of hours. The Nebraska State Patrol said that several occupants had to be extracted from their vehicles. One person was killed and at least a dozen were injured in the chain reaction accident.

Thankfully, wind gusts only around 30 miles-per-hour are expected in eastern Iowa through tomorrow. That shouldn't be enough to cause many visibility issues for us. However, there is a very high fire danger today. The dry conditions combined with the strong south wind and warm temperatures are the perfect ingredients.
