Iowa Fans WILL Wave at Children’s Hospital Kids During Every Football Game

I first told you over two months ago about an awesome idea for the upcoming football season. Wouldn't it be cool (I asked) if the Kinnick Stadium crowd turned and waved at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital during each game? Today, I'm happy to report it's going to happen!

The University of Iowa announced via a release this afternoon that during every game, the University will promote its Touchdowns for Kids in which fans can pledge to donate a dollar or more for every Iowa touchdown during the season. The release states that after a video is played promoting Touchdowns for Kids, "Hawkeye fans will be invited to turn and wave to the kids watching from UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital." It doesn't specify when this will occur. I hope the University does it at a consistent time every game. The idea we were circulating was to have it happen at the end of the first quarter. First, second, third... that part's not important but I believe consistency is. Let's have the fans expecting it and, even more importantly, let's have the kids know when it's going to happen.

In seven years, Touchdowns for Kids has raised almost $400,000 for the kids and families at the Children's Hospital. Last year's total was $42,000 after Iowa scored a total of 54 touchdowns. Donate HERE and let's raise even more money this year!

Even if the Hawks are sometimes trailing when the new Kinnick Stadium/Children's Hospital Wave happens, I know it will make the fans feel good. What's far more important is that it will raise the spirits of the kids and parents inside the Children's Hospital. That's why this is such a great new tradition.
