The COVID-19 pandemic in Iowa is now into its seventh month and, unfortunately, is showing no signs of slowing down. The Iowa Department of Public Health has announced a new high in deaths and hospitalizations in the state.

The state reported this morning that 31 more people have died from coronavirus. The state's coronavirus website shows a total of 1,581 people in Iowa have now died of the virus. Two counties in Iowa have had more than 100 deaths. They are Polk and Linn with 238 and 127, respectively.

Iowa Department of Public Health also announced 1,276 new positive coronavirus tests. The state's total of positive cases now stands at 109,634, with 84,630 recovered. A total of 911,899 tests have been done in the state.

There are currently 68 outbreaks at long term care facilities in Iowa. A total of 1,720 people have tested positive in those facilities, with 787 deaths. There have been 1,720 positive tests in long term care facilities in the state throughout the pandemic with 693 having recovered from the virus.

The state of Iowa has also set a new record for the number of people hospitalized due to the virus. A total of 534 people are now receiving treatment for COVID-19 in the state. There were 90 new admissions from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Of the 534 people getting treated, 134 are in Intensive Care and 49 are on ventilators.
