I know we're known for our love of corn, but come on!

The website CandyStore.com puts out a list every fall of the three most popular Halloween candies in all 50 states, and the past couple of years I have been very satisfied with the results. Last year, Iowa's number one candy was Reese's, which is my personal favorite. This year, things have somehow taken a wrong turn. Reese's has been bumped down to number three, M&M's are number two, and CANDY CORN is the best-selling candy in our state. HOW? I truly believe that candy corn belongs straight in the trash. I mean, it's just wax! How can we even call it candy?! I'm so disappointed in you, Iowa.

Candy corn came in at number six overall, with the top five as follows:

  1. Skittles
  2. M&M's
  3. Snickers
  4. Reese's Cups
  5. Starburst

The National Retail Federation is estimating that shoppers will spend about $2.6 billion on Halloween candy this year, which is down slightly from last year. The only Halloween candy I'll be buying is Reese's Pumpkins, which are somehow so much better than regular Reese's. It's gotta be that chocolate to peanut butter ratio.
