I recently came across this surprising post on Facebook:

Jason Scheff has been with Chicago since 1985 when he and Bill Champlin--who has also since left the band--began to share frontman duties after Peter Cetera left to pursue a solo career. Scheff now appears to have seen his own tenure with the group come to an end. He had gone on a mysterious hiatus from the band in spring 2016, which now looks to be permanent. Whatever the referenced family health issues entail, we wish Jason and his loved ones the best. He is also one of the judges on a new musical competition show called American Supergroup, so one wonders if this new project contributed to his exit from the band.

I've been a fan of Chicago's music all my life. If this is, in fact, the end of their association with Jason Scheff, I am now especially glad I got to see them in concert together in 2015 when they played the McGrath Amphitheatre in Cedar Rapids. They also received the honor earlier this year of making it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The jury is still out on new lead singer, Jeff Coffey, but if history is any indication, the rest of the band will play on and not miss a beat. For the record: yes, I will still love Chicago, past and present, separately and collectively, for the rest of my life.
