James Franco has completely transformed himself for his new role as an ex-gay activist.

The actor, who normally sports wavy, dark brown hair, showed off his new, straight and bleach-blonde locks on Instagram. He captioned the snap, "That Late 90s bleached look."

This isn't the first time the Oscar-nominated star has drastically changed his appearance for a role ('Spring Breakers,' anyone?) and this only makes us more excited to see him on the big screen.

In his upcoming project, James will play Michael Glatze, a former gay activist. According to Advocate, Glatze founded a gay magazine, only to become a "conservative Christian minister who says God helped him change from gay to straight." Vulture confirmed that the film will be produced by Gus van Sant and directed by Justin Kelly. The movie is reportedly based on a 2011 New York Times article, 'My Ex-Gay Friend,' written by Benoit Denizet-Lewis.
