If you’re wondering why American Crime Story’s third, Versace-based season has made considerably more press than Season 2’s Katrina, there’s good reason. FX confirms that Versace will now serve as Season 2, as Katrina shores up its returning cast and special effects.

As outlined by The Hollywood Reporter, both seasons are still set to premiere in 2018, though Katrina will now take the backseat, as it “requires additional time to create special water effects needed to re-create Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.” Not only that, but cast scheduling of confirmed returning stars Sarah Paulson, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Courtney B. Vance plays a factor.

Elsewhere of the Katrina season, we know Dennis Quaid will take the role of President George W. Bush, alongside Matthew Broderick as FEMA Director Michael D. Brown and Annette Bening in the role of Kathleen Blanco, Governor of Louisiana. American Crime Story Season 2 will draw its Katrina inspiration from Douglas Brinkley’s The Great Deluge, and likely cast Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin.

We’ll hear of additional Katrina details soon, but will The Assassination of Gianni Versace live up to People v. O.J. Simpson? Stay tuned for the latest.
