Katy Perry has been named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She also performed at the organization's ninth annual Snowflake Ball in NYC (Dec. 3), looking sparkly in silver and resplendent in red while at Cipriani Wall Street.

Perry also shared a video documenting her work with the organization and reflected on her trip to Madagascar, which she took in April and inspired her song 'Unconditionally.'

"It changed my life," the 'ROAR' singer said. "It really kind of reprioritized my thinking, and my whole approach on life, and how to find my own joy and my own happiness that isn't being from material possessions and social status."

Perry furthered, "It's nice to be able to pop the bubble that I live in and realize that the world has so many different things to offer and cultures."

The people she encountered on her trip inspired her music and her personal perspective. She had gone through her divorce with Russell Brand, which drove her into a depression. Seeing others with greater issues than her own helped her out of that hole too.

She said, "You know I was going through a transition in my life where I felt like I had been suppressed and emotionally toyed with — and like I went there, and I was like, I have nothing to compare my situation to. It made me feel very grateful, but also very aware."

Perry plans to make a UNICEF trip a year.

On the red carpet, Perry wore a festive, red velvet Naeem Khan dress with a cape.
