It has been another fantastic summer of baseball in Cedar Rapids.  The first half may have been better than the second half, but none the less, the whole season was exciting, and it's definitely not over yet. The first half saw our Kernels finish 2nd in the Western Division, with a 41-29 record. It was good enough to get them in the playoffs, facing off against Quad Cities.  Quad Cities had the best record in the league in the first half, and didn't slow down much in the second half, maintaining the best record overall for the season.  It didn't look good for the Kernels heading into last Wednesday's playoffs. However, we took the win 5-2, then did it again Thursday, with a final score of 3-1, meaning we swept them right out of the playoffs.  Best team in the league eliminated.

And so we now head to the Western Division finals, facing off against Peoria. Both teams had just about the same record for the season, and it appears we'll have quite the battle on our hands.  We went 8-8 with them this season, but they were also the team we beat on that unbelievable 23-3 game just a few weeks ago.

So after the Cy-Hawk game finishes up, follow the Kernels game through the broadcast on Kernels.com, as they'll be in Peoria for game 1 of the best of 3 series.  Then make sure you get your tickets for Sunday's game 2 and join us at the ballpark. Gates open at 3p, game starts at 4p.  Game 3, if needed, will be at home on Monday.  The series winner heads to the best of 5 League Championship to take on either Lansing or West Michigan.

Go Kernels!
