We can't wait to host the KDAT Kids Fest on Saturday, October 25. Eastern Iowa families will gather from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Helen G. Nassif YMCA/Downtown Cedar Rapids.

It's a day full of fun activities for kids and parents alike. Kids can engage in a variety of arts & crafts projects, participate in sporting activities, exciting learning opportunities, and most importantly, show off their Halloween costumes in the costume contest! We'll even have a "not-too-scary haunted house."

Every child will receive a goody bag from Mercy Medical Center. Lindale Dental Care will be giving away a $100 Toys R’ Us gift card every hour! The Corridor Therapy Dogs will make an appearance too.

Here's a top 5 list of fun outdoor autumn activities from The Art Of Simple.

VISIT A LOCAL PUMPKIN PATCH.

Always a good time. If you get really busy like we've been at our house, sometimes that "patch" is a stop at Fareway in Hiawatha. :}

APPLE PICKING

There's a nice orchard in North Marion, and I ran into a couple in LaCrosse over the weekend. Apples just taste better this time of year. Apple cider is also a seasonal favorite at the Scharnau house.

COLLECTING LEAVES

My son made a shirt from leaves. So many varieties. So many to gather.

LEAF PILES

Our last house had more trees, but there's still a nice pile in our backyard. I'm glad I don't have to put out 30+ leaf bags this fall, but am also glad we have enough to stack up and jump in.

TRICK OR TREATING

What's better than the night of the 31st? We always make it a point to drive to see friends and family while also scanning the neighborhood for places to visit. Costumes are almost as anticipated as Santa's visit.
