Where Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are concerned, being down on your luck can feel, strangely, like a fairy tale.

The former Crazy, Stupid Love and Gangster's Squad co-stars are back together again in a brand new trailer (with words, this time!) for the forthcoming La La Landwhich will hit theaters on December 9. And if your zipper's stuck or your belt's clasp just won't budge, don't fret — these two will most certainly charm you pants off.

In the clip above, Stone's an actor named Mia who can't land a role and Gosling's a struggling musician named Sebastian with dreams of opening a club, but neither can seem to make any headway in Hollywood. Together, though, they find the encouragement to carry on and conquer — you know, when they're not breezily exacting ballroom choreography in the air or living out Rockwellian fantasies to original scores.

"This is the dream: It's conflict and it's compromise and it's very, very exciting," Sebastian says in a line movie-goers will likely recite through the new year.

Written by Whiplash creator Damien Chazelle, La La Land also stars John Legend as the piano-playing Keith and J.K. Simmons, who won an Oscar the last time he worked with Chazelle.

Select tracks from the musical event, including Gosling's rendition of "City of Stars," are now available on iTunes.
