Legendary Basketball Coach Pat Summitt Dies
Pat Summitt, the legendary coach of the Tennessee women's basketball program has died. The Pat Summitt Foundation announced her passing this morning. She was 64.
Summitt coached Tennessee to 8 national championships in her 38 years as head coach. She won 1,098 career games, more than any other coach in Division 1 basketball history. Summitt stepped away from coaching in 2012 after being diagnosed with early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Later that year, she would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Arthur Ashe Award.
A public memorial for Summitt is being planned in Tennessee.
