We will soon be turning another page on the calendar, but in this case I think we can all agree it will be a change for the better -- March is nearly here!

Needless to say, it's been a harsh winter around here at times. It's somewhat bearable in December with all the holiday festivities to enjoy. January and February, on the other hand, always seem a little more difficult, especially this year.

March begins a more hopeful time where the weather will soon be warming, students will be going on spring break, Daylight Saving Time will give us the one-night inconvenience of losing an hour of sleep as we "spring forward" but we will gain more and more daylight as time goes on.

There will be baseball games, and as usual, for that you don't have to look further than our own Cedar Rapids Kernels. See their schedule here.

We have the SAPADAPASO St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Cedar Rapids, the beginning of Spring (which means summer is not far off!) and my favorite Springtime event --my birthday! I'm looking forward to seeing Heart and Joan Jett that evening (March 21) at the U.S. Cellular Center and I am especially excited about one of my "bucket list" shows as Chicago plays the McGrath Amphitheatre Thursday, May 21. Concerts and events galore all season, and you can locate info for many of them on our events calendar.

So, let's be patient with what's left of this winter, and be proud of ourselves for surviving it as we look ahead to brighter, warmer and more fun-filled days and nights to come!
